About Us

Our Name

In an interview, Steve Jobs was asked about his personal beliefs regarding great product development. He answered with a parable about a rock tumbler:

“[We took] some regular old ugly rocks and we put them in the can with a little bit of liquid and grit powder, and we closed the can up. And he turned this motor on and he said, come back tomorrow.

And, I came back the next day, and we opened the can. And we took out these amazingly beautiful polished rocks. The same common stones that had gone in through rubbing against each other like this (clapping his hands), creating a little bit of friction, creating a little bit of noise, had come out beautiful.”

We see our company's mission as providing the liquid and grit powder for your product development process, and that is why we're named 'Liquid and Grit'.

Meet Brett Nowak, CEO and Founder

"Back in 2015 I started Liquid and Grit. I was director of product at Blue Shell Games and prior to that the Product Manager at Zynga Poker. I was putting out fires, writing out specs, doing analysis, dealing with personalities... everything that went with managing a top grossing mobile game. I was downloading all the competitors games and playing them, looking at their revenue numbers, and trying to figure out what the next revenue driving feature would be. I needed to know who was going to be my next big competitor in the market, what apps we're getting released that I should know about from genres, and everything else that goes into formulating competitive intelligence. I felt like if i had that problem, then probably some other people I knew had that problem too."

Brett Nowak attended Harvard University and the Tuck School of Business.

Our Products

We've designed our service to push valuable information to you while leaving several doors open for you to pull deeper insights on particular topics of interest. Everything that we've written is categorized in our Wiki tool with a proprietary taxonomy system so that you can easily find reports, spreadsheets, analysis, videos, and more related to your topic of interest.

Diving still deeper, you can utilize our Database tool. Our Database tool holds over 15,000 libraries of features, events, and content, including high quality videos and images of apps and gameplay. Instead of downloading and playing games to level X, you can simply find the app in our feature database. Much of the content located in the Wiki contains integrated references to content in the Database, making for seemless navigation through our research experience.
